The Indian Administrative Services is an ix officer cadre of the Union Government of India, they assist in the administration of the country, and also perform other tasks such as policy-making.
The Indian Administrative Service is conducted through testing conducted by the Central Board of
Recruitment, Promotion, and Tenure in July every year. Students who pass this will be allowed to work in the state government they apply for. In order to qualify the basic eligibility criteria for the various tests, candidates must possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university or equivalent qualification from another country.
The minimum qualifications required to apply to the Indian Administrative Service for the first time posting are as follows:
Provide a minimum IAS rank of 70% in the first attempt i.e. s.1 (Class I) Officers Cadre of Central Civil Services Examination (PCS), conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).
Applicants seeking a post in this examination should possess at least an intermediate or an equivalent degree with at least 45% marks, with subjects such as Economics, History, English, and Political Science.
The recommended age limit for applying to this examination is between 21 and 27 years. The upper limits of the age criteria may also be relaxed by 5 years for persons belonging to one of the following reserved categories:
Member of Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), Other Backward Class (OBC), and Physically handicapped persons.
The time period for which a candidate must be an Indian National: Twenty-two years. Applicants who do not fall under this category can apply but their appointment will be provisional and will have to prove themselves within 2½ years from the date on which they are counted amongst the regular appointees.
Candidates who score at least 50% marks in the first attempt to the middle attempt of an examination allotted to them should qualify for an appointment.
Candidates who have not qualified in first or second attempts but have secured minimum qualifying marks should be eligible for consideration on the basis of their experience. Eligibility criteria are as follows:
Applicants should have completed five years of probation work in an equivalent rank having a minimum of 25 years of age, at least one year spent in road transport service, Government Engineering Service or Autonomous bodies which are regulated by Central Government, State government or any Central or State body. Applicants can also be considered under the reserved category for this category i.e. members of scheduled castes (SC) & scheduled tribes (ST).
Candidates should be citizens of India. Candidates can apply to the examination which they wish to appear for through online mode.
The candidates appearing for the Civil Services Examination may write it in any language preferred by him/her provided they have a command of English Language at the level of a Grade ‘A’ certificate issued by a Government Institute recognized by the Central Board of Secondary Education or equivalent foreign language which shall not exceed five years.
Citizens belonging to Scheduled Castes may also apply but are provisionally subject to being ranked subsequently after their interview. This provision will be available to other Scheduled Caste candidates for a period of 10 years from the date of commencement of the scheme.
